A fence is a freestanding structure designed to restrict or prevent movement across a boundary. Fences can be built for privacy, also to prevent trespassing or theft, and to keep children and pets from going away or accessing certain areas.

A picket fence is formed of a series of vertical pales, posts, stakes, rods, etc. (sometimes sharpened at the upper end) which are joined together by horizontal rails.

Fences can be made of different materials such as steel, aluminium and wood.
